Katie and her husband, Ty, were 11 weeks into their pregnancy with their second daughter when they received a phone call that changed everything. Their midwife told them that the test had come back positive for trisomy 18.
In an instant, their lives were turned upside down. Doctors warned that their time with Poppy Faith would be short at best. Uncertainty and grief became their new normal. Yet even then, Ty and Katie clung to one certainty: their precious daughter would be healed. Whether in their arms or in the Lord’s, they entrusted her completely to Him.
Family and friends prayed for a miracle. Their church prayed. They prayed. But as the weeks went by, ultrasound after ultrasound brought devastating news. Poppy was extremely small for her gestational age, there were multiple signs of trisomy 18, and her diaphragm hadn’t formed, which prevented her lungs from developing.
At first, the doctors said Poppy wouldn’t live beyond 24 weeks. But the days kept passing, and against all odds, she kept growing. Ty and Katie scheduled a C-section at 36 weeks, praying for even a few moments with their daughter.
Through it all, God was near. Ty and Katie share, “At every doctor’s appointment, through every prayer-bathed decision, every time we felt her kick, in every breath we took, God invited us to believe and trust more deeply in Him.”
From the very beginning of their journey, Abel Speaks stepped into their story. Ty and Katie share, “We still remember the seed of hope that was planted in our hearts that day from complete strangers speaking of our daughter’s life with gratitude, and as something to be cherished.”
That seed of hope grew into a season of care. Through the support of friends like you, we were able to connect Ty and Katie with mentor couples who had walked a similar road. Not only that, we introduced them to other parents who were in the middle of the same journey. A local photographer also captured maternity photos so Ty and Katie could treasure their time as a family of four. Thoughtful books, including one just for Poppy’s big sister, Maddie, helped them process. And we gave them a beautiful engraved keepsake box filled with treasures, including a Bible with Poppy’s name on the cover.
Ty and Katie say it best: “You joined us in the deepest depth of our grief and helped us see that through Jesus, hope lives there too. Beauty and joy and celebration of this precious life gifted to us live there too.”
On August 12, 2025, Poppy Faith entered the world weighing 3 pounds, 10 ounces. And for almost four incredibly peaceful hours before she went to walk with Jesus, she was surrounded by her family and insurmountable love.
Even though her time on this earth was short, God worked powerfully through Poppy’s life. She touched the hearts of her family, their community, and countless others who continue to be moved by her story. As Ty and Katie reflect, “‘Support changes stories’ is Abel Speaks’ vision statement, and have they ever proven that to be true for us.”
Poppy’s life, though brief, continues to speak. And through your prayers and gifts, families like hers are reminded that their child’s life has value, their story matters, and that they are never alone.
Thank you for walking with Ty and Katie, and with so many other families. Your faithful partnership is writing stories like theirs every day.
Retreats Returning in 2026!
One of the most meaningful ways Abel Speaks cares for parents is by hosting weekend retreats where they can build and deepen relationships while remembering, honoring, and celebrating their children together.
After pausing retreats this past year, we’re excited to share that mentor and alumni retreats will return in 2026! These gatherings provide a space for community, worship, and encouragement that participants cherish for years to come.
Because they are donor-funded, your support makes these retreats possible. Thank you for giving parents the gift of remembering and celebrating their children in such a special way.

Introducing the Keepsake Club
A new way to remember and cherish
For families served by Abel Speaks, the formal season of care lasts about two years. But the journey doesn’t have to end there. Launching January 1, 2026, the Keepsake Club is a way for alumni parents to continue receiving meaningful gifts that celebrate their child’s life.
Here’s how it works: Each year, families can choose a package of 1-4 keepsake gifts timed around meaningful moments such as their child’s birthday, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or Christmas. Rather than monthly billing, families simply pay up front for the package they select.
Moving forward, every family who graduates from our two-year program will receive an invitation to join. All alumni families from previous years will also be invited. Because space is limited, new enrollments will be capped each year, with a waitlist in place so that every interested family will eventually have the chance to participate.
The Keepsake Club is designed to remind parents that their child’s life is still remembered—and so are they.
Year-End Giving Opportunities: Every gift tells a family,
“You are not alone”
As the year draws to a close, we look back in awe at the stories God has written through friends like you. Families like Ty and Katie’s, who welcomed their daughter Poppy Faith, and so many others who found hope and community when they needed it most.
When you give a year-end donation, you’ll step into more stories like these. You’ll remind more parents in 2026 that their child’s life is precious, and that they’re not walking alone.
There are many ways to give as you prayerfully consider your year-end generosity:
- Some choose to give online, making a secure gift at donorbox.org/abelspeaks2025.
- Others prefer to mail a check, ensuring it’s postmarked by December 31 to qualify for a 2025 tax deduction.
- Friends also give through stocks or donor-advised funds, stewarding resources for eternal impact.
- For those age 70 ½ and older, IRA charitable distributions provide another meaningful way to give.
- And some families even invite their employers to join them through matching gifts.
However you choose to give, every act of generosity is part of the care Abel Speaks provides. So thank you for considering a year-end gift that will help more families experience hope, honor, and a community of care in 2026.
Why This Work Matters to Me
A Word from Jordan Salim, Abel Speaks Board Treasurer
Dear Friend,
My connection to Abel Speaks goes back almost a decade. I was there when the ministry was just beginning, and my wife and I were early supporters. Over the years, I’ve watched it grow from a vision into a lifeline for families.
But my commitment to this work became deeply personal in 2024. During my wife’s pregnancy with our son Cal, we were told he might have trisomy 18. While everything turned out okay, those days of uncertainty gave me a glimpse into what so many Abel Speaks families face.
Soon after, my brother and his wife received news that their daughter Ava had Turner Syndrome. Through Abel Speaks, they were connected with compassionate medical care and a community who walked with them every step. Ava went to be with Jesus at Thanksgiving last year, and even in their grief, my brother and his wife were surrounded with hope and support.
I’ll never forget watching God care for my own family through this ministry. And I’m reminded often of the truth we cling to—that every child is made in the image of God, and that in Christ, death doesn’t have the final word.
Jesus Himself said that He isn’t the God of the dead, but of the living (Luke 20:38). That’s why we can grieve with hope, and trust that the same Savior who defeated death is holding precious children like Poppy and Ava, even now.
Abel Speaks isn’t just an organization I serve on paper. It’s a community that points people to Jesus in the hardest moments of their lives. That’s why I believe so strongly in this work, and why I’m so grateful for friends like you who make it possible.
Thank you for standing with these families through your prayers and generosity, especially as the year comes to a close. Together, we’re bearing witness to the hope of the Gospel and the truth that every child’s life has value.
Sincerely,
Jordan Salim
Abel Speaks Board Treasurer
