Our Story

After an early miscarriage a few months prior, we were overjoyed to find out that we were pregnant again in December 2021. At our first OBGYN appointment at 8 weeks gestation, we were surprised to find out that we were expecting TWINS! We were immediately referred to the MFM, a high risk specialist.

During our first MFM appointment, at 12 weeks, we began to find out that, while Twin A looked normal and healthy, there was something different about our Twin B. With no clear answers, we left that appointment and did a little gender reveal in the car just the two of us. We were having 2 little girls! We immediately knew that we wanted to name Twin B Eleanor, Ellie for short. We had this name pick out for our daughter since early in our marriage.

After blood test results came back two weeks later, we received a call with the diagnosis- Trisomy 13. Two weeks later, we had another appointment with the MFM. During that appointment, we found out that Ellie had a major heart defect that would lead to a very short life once she was born.

Ellie grew well along side her twin sister, Emma, until they were born on August 1st, 2022. Ellie came into this world eyes wide open and with a strong cry! She lived for 2 hours, and met Jesus as we held her close. She had brown hair like her daddy and was absolutely beautiful!

Abel Speaks came along side us after getting Ellie’s diagnosis and walked with us as we celebrated each day we had with her. Through mentorship and keepsakes, retreats and new friendships, we have been able to better experience God’s peace along with the sorrow as we carry on her legacy of JOY in all circumstances.

Paying it Forward

Ellie’s life, although short, is incredibly important to us. We love getting to cherish and remember her time with us on earth. When our friends and family give to Abel Speaks in Ellie’s honor, we are deeply joyed and touched to know that Ellie’s life matters to them as well.

By faith, Ellie still speaks!

With love,

Scott & Leah Evetts
