Our Story
We were told at our anatomy scan around 12 weeks that Harlow had a fatal diagnosis and wasn’t compatible with life. She had Anencephaly. Four days prior to her diagnosis, we lost her twin Ethan to Trisomy 18.
They told us that it would be very unlikely to make it to full term, as most babies pass away in utero from this condition. They said if she did live, we wouldn’t have but a few minutes with her when she was born. I elected to do a C-section in hopes to meet her alive. God blessed us with 15.5 hours. The absolute BEST 15.5 hours of my life. She was born on 4/11/23 and passed away on 4/12/23. She was 4 lbs 5 oz and 17 inches long!
We had the most amazing hospital, staff, and team of doctors who supported us through the journey, which made a huge impact on Harlow’s life. It was the most wonderful thing to be able to see God’s will for her and let her life carry out the way it was supposed to. Giving her the dignity and respect she deserved was very important to Joe and I. Although I wake up each day with a heavy heart, I reflect on how rewarding it is to have no regrets and forever cherish the memories we made with her during her very brief life.
Our tiny miracle was absolutely beautiful and so perfect. It was by far and away the worst thing we have ever had to go through, and we couldn’t have done it without the amazing community of support with Abel Speaks.
Paying it Forward
Abel Speaks community is beyond incredible—the way that they walk with you on your journey and support you every step of the way, from the beginning to the middle to the end. They do so much to support all the families and work very hard in being a spectacular team. They give you beautiful keepsakes with your child, and there is something about seeing your child’s name when they have passed away—it is a very powerful feeling, and we are so happy when we get to see Harlow’s name!
The way they work together in raising money for their amazing nonprofit, for people to afford connections of a lifetime, is beautifully orchestrated. We had the honor of being able to join them in a retreat this past summer—it truly was a trip of a lifetime.
We are forever grateful for all that they have done for us and want to show our support and appreciation in any way that we can. Please help us in donating in honor of Harlow, as her second heavenly birthday is coming up next week.
