Our Story
My husband and I found out we were expecting at 10 and a half weeks. At our 16-week anatomy scan, we were told there were some neurological development concerns. After countless doctor appointments, scans, and sleepless nights, we learned just how severe our situation was. Following a third-trimester MRI, we received the official diagnosis: severe hydrocephalus — not compatible with life outside of the womb.We were told our chances of making it to full term were almost non-existent. And if we did, we likely wouldn’t hear her cry—maybe just 10 minutes with her alive, but we needed to prepare to never make it out of the operating room with our girl alive.On August 15, 2023, at 3:29 p.m., Remi James arrived—full term at 37 weeks and 2 days—and she entered the world with the sweetest cry. She surpassed everyone’s expectations from the very beginning.We were able to bring her home on hospice, and she lived for 36 precious days. It was the sweetest 36 days of our lives. She defied every odd, and the Lord answered so many prayers through her little life.
Honoring Remi James' Legacy
Abel Speaks helped us with formulating the right questions to ask doctors, gave us advice on how to advocate for our family, connected us with other families who we have been fortunate enough to meet up with and gave us life long bonds with those who are walking this same road. They have provided us with memorabilia that will help us keep Remi’s name alive for the rest of our lives. We want to support Abel Speaks by raising money for them so families who are unfortunately walking this same road don’t have to walk it alone.
